For those that didn’t catch the IML contest, I just wanted to note that this class had:

– The oldest contestant (73yrs) in IML history (top 20)
– The oldest IML winner (63yrs) in IML history
– The first Asian IMBB
– A trans man of color (top 20)
– A disabled Iraq war vet (podium)
– Several very out and proud pups (two in top 20)
– A man with autism (top 20)
– First contestant from Brazil (top 20)
– First contestant from Finland
– A Pakistani American
– Several bears
– Several daddies
– Several out anime and sci-fi nerds
– Two couples, each competing with a different title
– A Sister of Perpetual Indulgence in veil
– A vegan who owns virtually no leather and borrows for ethical reasons (top 20)
– a hairless twink (top 20 and more rare than you’d think)

Am I missing any other interesting facets? This is all just top of mind for me, and I might have overlooked other cool stuff.

Yes, our community has further to go in full acceptance and celebration of all our differences, but strides are being made. I hope that this list serves to inspire the NEXT “IML firsts” to step up and represent. You might not win, but someone will see you, and in you see themselves, and that applause that you get will be theirs too. Keep striding.
